FINLAND CELEBRATES WORLD INDUSTRIAL DESIGN DAY

The Finnish Association of Industrial Designers TKO, a member association of ORNAMO, is celebrating the World Industrial Design Day on Suomenlinna Fortress Island, where 40 years ago, in July 1968, the seminar for design students by the legendary design thinkers Victor Papanek, Bucky Fuller and Christopher Alexander was held.

During this event, TKO/ORNAMO will launch the first-ever book on the history of Finnish Industrial Design, edited by board members Sanna Simola and Marjukka Makela to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the association.

On the occasion of the first ever WIDD, four new honorary members of TKO will be announced:

Antti Siltavuori, Juhani Salovaara and Tapani Hyvonen have been Icsid board members reinforcing the most valuable international relations in the field of industrial design.

Heikki Metsa-Ketela imported the HfG Ulm School heritage in Finland in the late sixties and has had a strong influence on design education ever since.

To remember the date, we point out the connection with all named Pekka or Petra (all peters) celebrating their names on 29th June organising a PEKKA KUCHA event: every Pekka can talk about design for 6 minutes and 20 seconds.

Senior designers invited will share experiences about Papanek event of '68.
